    (February 21, 1927-March 10, 2018)
    Born in Beauvais, France
Founded the House of Givenchy (1952)
Best known for his designs for Audrey Hepburn and Jacqueline Kennedy
Named to the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame (1970)
He told 'Women's Wear Daily' that he never thought about 'whether the skirt is wide enough to walk in, how the wearer will look getting into and out of a taxi.... I consider the beauty and artistic value of fashion, not its utility.'
When he was told that 'Miss Hepburn' wanted to discuss costumes for the film 'Sabrina' with him, he assumed he would be meeting Katharine Hepburn since he had never seen any of Audrey's films.
When he retired as head designer of Givenchy (1995), he recommended Dominique Sirop as his replacement, but the owners of the company ignored him and chose John Galliano instead.
Alexander McQueen called him 'irrelevant' upon being named head designer for Givenchy (1997).
Asked about recent Givenchy collections, he replied, 'I don't think I have any interest any more. It's better like that.'
When he founded his own design house at age 25, he became the youngest designer on the Paris scene.
An interviewer noted, 'His manners are quietly impeccable.'
His designs were known for their understated elegance.
His dress designs for Audrey Hepburn in 'Sabrina' went unacknowledged since Edith Head refused to share on-screen credit.
Hepburn said, 'Givenchy is far more than a courtier. He creates personalities.'
