Why she might be annoying:

    Ohhhh, those costumes!
As Farian did not feel comfortable doing high female vocals, he and a colleague set out to find a ‘group' for TV and press purposes.
Highly uncomfortable with the idea of what she saw as mimicry, Claudja Barry left the group almost immediately.
They were blacklisted by the United Nations for playing at the Sun City Superbowl in South Africa.
Farian never had an interest in the American pop market, which preferred its own scene anyway (although Canada was taken with the group).
They drew curious comparisons to ABBA. In terms of sales, Boney M did better with the singles while ABBA did better with the albums.
Farrell eventually grew tired of being Farian's ‘dance bear' (puppet of sorts). His firing in a contract dispute had a brutal impact on both sides' fortunes, as his replacement was not well-received by fans.

Why she might not be annoying:

‘Baby Do You Wanna Bump' became a small hit in Belgium and the Netherlands. Eventually they - and other foreign nations - became curious as to whom Boney M really were.
In a curious twist, while the group went on to staggering success without Barry, she became successful without them!
They were one of the first pop groups of the western world to be allowed a live concert and a music video shoot in the Soviet Union (by Brezhnev).
The initial uproar over ‘Rasputin' died down quickly, as it was a solid favorite among the Soviet fan base. The fans didn't care that the lyrics were not historically accurate.
Their renditions of classic Christmas songs had their signature beat.
After a seafood poisoning incident in Jordan, King Hussein II personally dispatched his private physician to tend to the group.
Mitchell's pregnancy in 1980 was a mixed blessing to the group; it messed up their schedule but also gained them a badly-needed break.
