    Greek Minister of Culture and Sports (January 2009-October 2009)
    Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs (November 1989- February 1990; April 1990-April 1992)
    He lost his position as Foreign Minister due to failed proposals regarding the North Macedonia naming dispute.
    He left the New Democracy political party and formed a new Greek political party called Political Spring in 1993.
    However, that political party dissolved in 2004, and he rejoined New Democracy that same year.
    He had the unenviable job of dealing with Greece’s debt crisis which included austerity measures.
    He resigned from the position of Leader of the Opposition in 2015, after voters rejected a referendum whether Greece should accept bailout conditions proposed by the European Commission (EC), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the European Central Bank (ECB).
    He played tennis in high school.
    He is an alumnus of both Amherst and Harvard.
    His Political Spring party performed surprisingly well during the 1994 European Parliament elections.
    Under his watch, Greece achieved a primary government budget surplus in 2013 and improved it’s credit rating from B- to B.
    Tourism to the country also grew during his tenure as Prime Minister.
