Why Rotten Tomatoes might be annoying:

It is disliked by Hollywood studios who see it as a threat to their marketing.
It is owned by NBC and Warner Brothers, leading to questions of its objectivity.
It derives its name from the old practice of throwing rotten fruit at performers by a disapproving audience.
It follows the premise that a movie's worth is based only on immediate critical acceptance.
It deliberately withheld its early 'Justice League' score aggregate, which some viewed as A) an attempt to promote their web series or B) a ploy to soften the blow for Warner Bros both critically and financially.
It represents movies that got less than 3.5 in user scores with an icon of a green spilled popcorn bucket (why?)

Why Rotten Tomatoes might not be annoying:

It started out as a site devoted to collecting all the reviews of Jackie Chan's Hong Kong movies.
It came to major attention profiling reviews of 'Rush Hour.'
Its first non-Chan movie profiled was 'Your Friends and Neighbors.'
It was credited with boosting the box office receipts of 'Wonder Woman' and 'Spider-Man: Homecoming.'
Its Twitter account has accumulated over 2 million followers.
Its original domain name was 'Thumbs Up,' as a tribute to Siskel and Ebert, however copyright laws prevented its uasge.
It is a fun way of assessing new releases (based on critic consensus vs. audience acceptance).
