Why he might be annoying:

His record for lowest scoring average of 68.33 strokes per round in 1945 is partially due to weaker fields during World War II.
He retired from golf in 1946, at the relatively young age of 34.
His nickname is British-sounding, even though he is a Texan.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a great storyteller.
He was motivated to win so he could retire on a Texas ranch.
He once had a streak of winning money in 113 straight tournaments.
Because he swung the ball so well, a USGA robot that tested the velocity of golf balls was nicknamed 'Iron Byron'
He was the only former golfer to have his name on a PGA tournament, the Verizon Byron Nelson Classic.
He had hemophilia.
He was considered one of the best golf commentators of all time, for his stint with ABC in the 60s and 70s.
He won an incredible 19 tournaments in 1945, including 11 in a row.
