    He was the fourth Orel in his family and named his son Orel V.
    Though he plays up his born-again Christianity, he is divorced.
    He sung hymns when he was in the dugout.
    He never sustained a great career after injuring his rotator cuff in 1990.
    He served as the Texas Rangers' executive director for four months before he quit to join ESPN.

    He was among the most unstoppable pitchers of the late 1980's.
    He was known for his modesty and his work ethic.
    He pitched 59 straight scoreless innings, breaking Don Drysdale's record. He broke that record after pitching ten shutout innings in the last game of the regular season (1988).
    He had three wins and one save against the Mets during the 1988 NLCS.
    He led the Dodgers to a World Series win and the Indians to two World Series appearances.
    Johnny Carson persuaded him to sing a hymn during 'The Tonight Show,' and he complied.
    He was involved in many charities.
