    He broke both legs attempting an equestrian stunt with a circus.
    Actress Sarah Siddons called him 'a horrid little man.'
    He earned up to 12,000 pounds a year but consistently lived beyond his means.
    After he was named the 'other man' in a divorce case (1825), he was booed offstage and pelted with fruit.
