    Lost a duel to Aaron Burr

Why he might be annoying:

    He desperately desired military glory.
    After a inconsequential reprimand from General George Washington he quit his military position (February 1781).
    He overstepped his office limits interfering with other departments.
    He disagreed with Thomas Jefferson foreign policy.
    He wrote bitter personal attacks against John Adams revealing confidential cabinet matters.
    He successfully worked to end Aaron Burr's goal of becoming president.
    His son Philip was killed in a duel in 1801 but he didn't learn from it.
    He accepted Burr's challenge to a duel. He lost and died the next at forty-nine (July 12, 1804).
    He suffered from depression.

Why he might not be annoying:

    When he was twelve his mom died.
    He spoke French.
    He went from grammar school to a degree in arts in just two years (1772-1774).
    As an army captain he won three major battles in New York, the Battle of Long Island (August 1776), Chatterton's Hill (October, 1776) and Nassau Hall (January 1777).
    General George Washington made him a member of his personal staff and raised his rank to Lieutenant Colonel (March 1777).
    He co-wrote 'The Federalist,' a commentary on constitutional law.
    He was the first U.S. Secretary of the Treasury.
    He wrote President Washington's Farewell Address (1796).
    After Burr fatally wounded him in the duel he said 'I have no ill-will against Col. Burr. I met him with a fixed resolution to do him no harm. I forgive all that happened.'
