Why he might be annoying
He sued and won a settlement from BBC2 when he caught fire during a scene for 'Fawlty Towers.'
His wife Melody Lang acted in an episode of 'Fawlty Towers.'
In an episode of 'Fawlty Towers, he was to appear to get clocked on the head with a frying pan. He made a sudden movement which caused him to actually get hit real hard by the pan.
Despite appearing in many British TV series, most Americans only know him for his role on 'Fawlty Towers.'

He was a Jew born into Nazi Germany.
His father was arrested by the Nazis.
His portrayal of a Spaniard on 'Fawlty Towers' was so convincing it is hard to believe he was born in Germany and speaks with a British accent.
Despite portraying a character that spoke little or no English, he was instrumental to the success of 'Fawlty Towers.'
He hosted a 30 year 'Fawlty Tower' anniversary special (2005).
