Beauty Contestant

The Resume

    (December 25, 1993- )
    Born in Barranquilla, Colombia
Birth name is Ariadna María Gutiérrez Arévalo
Colombian television host, actress, model and beauty queen
Competed at the Miss Colombia 2014, representing the Sucre Department
Won the title of Miss Colombia, gaining the department's first win, succeeding former Miss Colombia and Miss Universe Paulina Vega (Nov. 17, 2014)
Crowned her successor, Andrea Tovar, as Miss Colombia (Nov. 26, 2015)
Represented Colombia at Miss Universe 2015, placing 1st Runner-Up to Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach
Gained unintended viral celebrity after being mistakenly announced as the winner by host Steve Harvey (Dec. 21, 2015)
Broke her silence to American audiences on The Steve Harvey Show, meeting face to face with an emotional and apologetic Steve Harvey for the first time since the internationally televised incident (Jan. 19, 2016)

Why she might be annoying:

    Her favorite food is pickles.
Her name is regularly mispronounced as 'Adriana' and 'Ariana.'
Her friends call her 'the cat lady' because of her tendency to over-pamper her house cats.
She claimed in her Steve Harvey appearance that Colombians saw the Miss Universe title as second only to the Presidency.
In the same interview, she also claimed to have mistakenly thought Harvey was appearing onstage during her crowning 'to tell a joke' (which would have been only slightly less offensive...)
She got to bask in the glory of being 'Miss Universe' longer than the actual winner did (by the time Pia was crowned, the show's timeslot had ended and the credits abruptly closed on a shot of her face).
Had the error gone uncorrected, many may have seen it as off-putting or unusual that Colombia was a back-to-back Miss Universe title winner (that her predecessor would have also been a cousin of hers probably wouldn't have helped much, either).
The mistake yielded countless internet memes satirizing the screw-up (her favorite meme being an cringe-inducing, unfunny one reading 'Happy Mother's Day! No wait - Merry Christmas!' in Spanish).
She called the experience 'a great injustice' and 'very humiliating for me' in a Colombian radio interview, also saying the producers 'handled the mistake badly.'
Some viewers criticized her handling of the situation in its aftermath as classless, especially compared to that of Pia 'Miss Philippines' Wurtzbach.
Many of these complaints, however, might have amounted to 'guilt by association' (outraged Colombians sent hate messages to Wurtzbach and death threats to Harvey, who had to hire armed guards to monitor his home 24/7, as a result).

Why she might not be annoying:

    She idolized Princess Diana.
She is the youngest of five children.
She started a fund to help underprivileged children as a schoolgirl.
Yeah, those who claimed that she rocked that Miss Universe crown better than the real winner might have had a point (no disrespect intended to Pia...)
She is fluent in not only Spanish and English, but also German.
She'd probably have a lot to talk about with Manuela Arbelaez.
Donald Trump famously expressed support for both her and Pia, calling for them to be made 'co-winners' (neither was all that interested).
Fellow Colombian celebrity Sofia Vergara tweeted out support for her shortly after the public mix-up was made.
Who the heck would have thought that folks took beauty pageant results as emotionally as the end of the Papal conclave?
She condemned those sending death threats and hate messages, saying that being associated with such hate made her almost as sad as losing.
She came off as good-hearted, forgiving, and funny during her Steve Harvey interview, coming off as genuine in her acceptance of his apology.
The emotional impact of the 'de-crowning' was comparable to Kanye West's crashing of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the 2009 Music Video Awards (both girls were seen sympathetically, as humiliated victims).
She expressed her wish to build off of the disappointing loss by using it to inspire young girls, subsequently releasing several encouraging/positive messages (e.g. 'Life continues and in the future we will find out why things happen the way they happen. Thank you all for your LOVE SUPPORT and KINDNESS').
