Author
    (August 22, 1935- )
    Born in Norwich, Connecticut
Birth name is Edna Annie Proulx
Author of 'The Shipping News,' 'Brokeback Mountain' and 'Postcards'
    Her surname is pronounced PROO.
She attended (but did not graduate) from Colby College.
In response to her celebrity status, she stated, 'when invitations are coming from festivals and colleges to come read (for an hour for a hefty sum of money), that the institutions are head-hunting for trophy writers. Most don't particularly care about your writing or what you're trying to say. You're there as a human object, one that has won a prize. It gives you a very odd, meat-rack kind of sensation.'
Displaying sore loser attitude, she condemned the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for not giving the film version of 'Brokeback Moutain' the Best Picture Oscar.
She went on to further call the winner 'Crash' as 'Trash.'
She graduated from the University of Vermont cum laude and was Phi Beta Kappa.
She won the Pulitzer Prize for 'The Shipping News.'
Two of her works were made into films.
Many of her works have won many accolades.
