Tennis Player

The Resume

    (January 18, 1988- )
    Born in Bremen, Germany
Left-handed tennis player (pro since 2003)
    Two-handed backhand form
2016 Australian Open winner (against Serena Williams!)
    2016 U.S. Open winner
2016 World Tennis Association Player of the Year
2016 German Sportswoman of the Year
2016 Summer Olympics gold and silver medalist (singles)

Why she might be annoying:

A fan at a U.S. Open match in 2011, having no idea of her name, was overheard asking, ‘Who is this Keebler person?’ (At the time, she was the 92nd seeded player.)
Despite her repeated insistence that ‘my heart beats for Germany,’ the Polish media made clear note of her passport and other niggling data on her backstory.
Not helping matters is that her parents are of German and Polish descent — but not in the same order.
She is a fan of Taylor Swift.
She was the namesake for, but not the founder of, the Angie Kerber Tennis Academy in the homeland (that was her grandfather’s doing).
Her management has constantly had trouble netting a third sponsor for her (Adidas and Porsche being the top partners).

Why she might not be annoying:

She is fluent in both of her parents’ languages — and English, too!
Since the sport tends to run in the family, she came by her talent honestly.
She regards Steffi Graf – the only German female to be ranked #1 in the world before her – as her idol.
While there have been older first-time Slam title winners (at least three of whom were 29 at the time), none of them went on to be #1 ranked in the world.
Having only two major sponsors would probably be the last worry of any athlete with her track record.
