They let not one, but two, celebrities play this time; one was a former National League baseball MVP, the other was Blair on ‘The Facts of Life.’
The 'Hidden' Immunity Idols were anything but; they were in plain sight, as ornaments on top of the tribes' rice boxes!
Matsing lost every single challenge it was in, and its last two members ended up being dispersed between the other two tribes.
Immunity and reward were always given out in the same challenge while there were three tribes in the game.
They had to put up with Abi’s frankness (which would not have been annoying if this weren’t a competitive reality show!).
Still, there have been past Survivor players far more unlikeable than Abi (think Jerri, Russell Hantz, Coach, Rich, Randy, Kimmi, Fairplay, to name a few), yet they never got as much flack as she did.
When it was announced that Russell was returning, it sent chills down some viewers’ spines, until they realized that it was the other Russell from Survivor: Samoa.
Lisa contracted West Nile virus shortly after doing the show.
When neither tribe could score a single goal in one reward challenge, Kalabaw negotiated an end to the game, by giving their opponents all their rice in exchange for Tandang conceding the reward.
It rained every day for three straight weeks.
The merged tribe name Dangrayne was a play on the term 'dang rain.'
They gave three past players, all of whom had been medically evacuated their last time out, another chance to play.
None of those returnees were Colton from One World.
Finally, Michael Skupin returned, 11 years after his infamous fall into the fire.
It marked the first brand new Survivor location in four seasons.
Tandang made it all the way to the merge without ever attending Tribal Council (Koror from Season 10 would have been the first tribe to accomplish this, but they were forced to go to Tribal on a night when both tribes in the game had to go).
‘Facts of Life’ fans finally got to see Lisa Whelchel literally getting down and dirty.
It was the first season since Survivor XII: Exile Island without a blindfold challenge (no, Jonathan in the village with the piñata doesn't count).
Jeff Probst made a diligent effort to make sure everyone spoke at the reunion, but Dawson chose to steal a kiss from him rather than speak.
Despite Matsing’s early futility, an original member of this tribe won Sole Survivor.
Denise, in fact, became the eldest female winner ever, at 41.
It was the first season in which all the finalists were 35 or older (in fact, they were all over 40).
