He was one of the figures in the Iranian Revolution, which overthrew the Shah of Iran (1979).
He stayed silent over the Caspian Airlines Flight 7908 plane crash that killed 168 people (2009).
He broke the code of neutrality for Supreme Leaders by calling President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's re-election a 'divine assessment' (2009).
He, like his predecessor, constantly whined against the Western World, especially the U.S., for all of Iran's troubles.
He doesn't mind Iran's alliance with North Korea despite its Communist ideology.
He has been criticized for inserting propaganda in Iranian media.
He calls for the Islamization of Iranian universities.

He condemned the September 11, 2001 attacks.
After weeks of protests from opposition party affiliates, he allowed some vote recounting.
He opposes the use of nuclear weapons.
He allows slight reconciliation with the West.
