    Appeared in the films 'Mask' (1985), 'Assault of the Killer Bimbos' (1988), 'Blind Fury' (1989), 'Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle' (1994), 'Face/Off' (1997) and 'The Astronaut's Wife' (1999)
    Directed 'Unhook the Stars' (1996), 'She's So Lovely' (1997), 'John Q' (2002), 'The Notebook' (2004), 'Alpha Dog' (2006) and 'My Sister's Keeper' (2009)
    Wrote the screenplay for 'Blow' (2001)
    He claimed, 'It was only when I came to the sad realization that I couldn't do anything else that I tried acting.'
    He sports a number of tattoos, most noticeably one on his neck.
    He frequently casts his girlfriend, Heather Wahlquist, in bit parts in his films.
    Ironically, his most successful film, 'The Notebook,' is the one he considers his worst.
    He won a basketball scholarship to Syracuse University.
    His daughter Sasha was born with a congenital heart defect and underwent four major heart surgeries.
    He was nominated for a Palm d'Or at Cannes for 'She's So Lovely.'
    He said of comparisons with his father, 'I'm certainly not John. And that's OK for me. There was only one of him.'
