Wrestler

The Resume

    (October 8, 1966-November 23, 1994)
Wrestled for EMLL, AAA and many Oregon promotions
    Known as ‘The Love Machine’

Why he might be annoying:

His first big break in wrestling came as a character called ‘Beetlejuice’ (a take off of the movie character).
The character later became ‘The Juicer’ in WCW, but it wasn’t anywhere near as successful as it was in the Oregon territory.
As his career was starting to take off in Oregon, he was charged with first-degree rape after a sexual encounter in a deserted armory.
While taking a lie detector test during the investigation, he admitted having sex with her. He said that he knew she didn’t want to have sex on a stairway in an empty armory, but believed she’d be willing to do it somewhere else; she testified differently, saying she was never willing.
His wrestling license was later revoked in Oregon not only because of the incident, but because he lied on his application by saying he had never been convicted of a felony, ignoring a cocaine possession charge he had in his teens.
Many looked at his death as a symbolization of the cultural barriers between the United States and Mexico and also Americans who speak English and Spanish. His death received huge coverage in Mexico, but the coverage he got in the U.S. was mostly on Spanish language stations.

Why he might not be annoying:

Wrestlers and fans in Mexico referred to him as ‘our Ric Flair’.
He was a well-respected wrestler as he blended styles from Mexico, Japan and the United States.
He was respected within the industry for being a guy who disappeared in his country to become a headliner and set attendance records for two of the biggest wrestling promotions in the world.
He made the cover of Box y Lucha, the oldest wrestling magazine in the world. He was the first non-Hispanic wrestler in the magazine's 47-year history to make the cover.
His tag team with Eddie Guerrero was a huge success and they’re credited for changing the style of Mexican wrestling.
His death hit many in the wrestling business hard. Many wrestlers wept at his funeral and many wrestling organizations did a ten-bell salute in his memory the week he died.
His best friend, Eddie Guerrero, calls the car he rides in ‘The Love Bug’ after Barr’s nickname.
