    (September 29, 1890-March 11, 1946)
    Born in Hokmabad, Tabriz, Iran
    Worked as a judge (1921-1933)
Extensively studied the ancient Azari language and the history of the Azerbaijani people
Discovered that the Azari language branched off from the Pahlavi (Middle Persian) language
Member of the London Royal Asiatic Society and American Academy
Wrote ‘History of the Iranian Constitutional Revolution’ (1940), ‘The 18-year History of Azarbaijan’, and ‘The Forgotten Kings’
Stabbed to death by members of Fadayan-e Islam at court
    He resembled Mohammed Pahlavi.
His criticism of the Shi’a branch of Islam resulted in a fatwa being imposed against him.
He supported the linguistic assimilation of Azerbaijanis from Azeri into Persian.
Ironically, he came from a traditionally clerical family.
He was raised in a poor section of Tabriz.
He was a supporter of constitutionalism.
When the Royal Court wanted to seize some villages near Tehran and give them to some mullah, he ruled against the Royal Court on behalf of the villagers.
He was primarily concerned about the role Muslim clergy are playing, which he believed fell short of their rightful role in life.
He survived an assassination attempt, only to be assassinated later (April 1945).
Fortunately, he didn’t attack Islam as a whole.
