The Resume

    (1995- )
    Born in United States
Created by David and Barbara Mikkelson
    Fact-checking web site
Also known as Urban Legends Reference Pages
Named after a family in a series of William Faulkner novels

Why Snopes.com might be annoying:

It has variously been accused of having either a liberal or conservative bias.
Probably the go-to rebuttal when you tell your conservative uncle Snopes disputed a hoax he shared on Facebook? 'Snopes is funded by liberal billionaire George Soros.'
By investigating even the most racist and bullshit conspiracy theories, it inadvertently gives those stories more attention.
Despite the site's intent, it has a section called 'The Repository of Lost Legends' (T.R.O.L.L.) where it promotes made-up info such as 'Mister Ed was actually a zebra.'
After the Mikkelsons divorced in 2014, many mentions of Barbara's name were scrubbed from the site.
A TV pilot based on the site was not picked up.

Why Snopes.com might not be annoying:

George Soros does not fund the site.
David Mikkelson's response to claims of the site's founders' political bias, 'You'd be hard-pressed to find two more apolitical people.'
It’s a good resource to verify or dismiss any rumor you see on any e-mail forward and social media post.
It is honest about any claim that it can neither confirm nor deny by marking it 'undetermined.'
Before their divorce, the Mikkelsons wrote the articles and maintained the site on their own.
Many of its writers were originally regulars on its message boards.
It was among the sites used by Facebook as part of their initiative to combat hoaxes and 'fake news' shared on the social network.
