The Resume

    (1964- )
    Born in Hamilton, Ontario,, Canada
Founded by Tim Horton and Ron Joyce
    Headquarters in Oakville, Ontario
Franchises in all Canadian provinces and territories and some states in the U.S.A.
Tagline: ‘You've always got time for Tim Hortons' (later ‘Always Fresh')
    Stock exchange symbol: THI

Why Tim Hortons might be annoying:

Its first stores did not offer anything besides coffee and doughnuts.
In terms of customers, it holds eight times the coffee market share of its closest competitor, Starbucks.
It commands about three-quarters of the baked goods market in Canada.
Its Rrrroll Up the Rrrim to Win campaign runs between March and May — the height of the National Hockey League season.
Following Tim's death in 1974, Joyce (a retired cop based in Hamilton) purchased his shares from his widow to become sole owner.
Joyce's aggressive expansion strategy was a severe blow to independent Canadian doughnut shops.
At the time of Tim's death, there were only 40 franchises.
Karla Homolka was asked what her first act as a free woman (2005) would be. She replied, ‘This is stupid. I'd like to have an iced cappuccino… from Tim Hortons, that's what I'd like to do.'

Why Tim Hortons might not be annoying:

It took nearly 15 years to achieve its 100th store (Thunder Bay, Ontario, 1978). Expansion was much faster after that.
It went on to have double the North American fast-food market share of McDonalds (surpassing its overall share in 2002).
Doughnuts are partially cooked, frozen, and delivered to individual franchises to complete the process throughout the day.
It has a loyal military fan base, with franchises located around key bases for the Canadian Forces.
Under Joyce's expansion strategy, Canada went on to have the strongest per-capita ratio of doughnut shops of any nation.
Their coffee, hot chocolate, cappuccino, and (to a lesser degree) tea can be purchased just as if they were in a standard grocery store. In fact, most grocery stores actually do carry their (percolator) coffee.
Many stores charge a single price for any size tea.
Timbits (the tiny pastries introduced in April 1976) became a generic Anglo-Canadian term for doughnut ‘holes.'
Some stores in Ireland carry Tim Hortons products.
