Murdered President James A. Garfield
Convicted of murder (January 25, 1882)
Put to death by hanging

Why he might be annoying:

He was divorced.
He failed at several jobs, from lawyer to evangelist.
He wanted a government job but was repeatedly turned down, making him disgruntled.
He claimed he saw a heavenly vision telling him that he must kill President Garfield (May 18, 1881).
He shot Garfield in the back in a Washington train station (July 2, 1881).
After shooting the president, he fled the scene and checked himself into a local jail a few hours later.
Garfield lingered in agony for three months before dying from the shot (September 19, 1881).
He thought that killing Garfield would get him a good job with the government (what?).
He was incarcerated for months, waiting for newly sworn-in President Chester Arthur to rescue him from prison and give him the job. Arthur, of course, never rescued him.
His last words before being hanged were 'Glory, glory.'

Why he might not be annoying:

His father abused him as a child.
He was just another guy looking for work.
He was beaten in his jail cell by both guards and convicts trying to get revenge on him.
He was completely nuts.
