    She got her first mention in the society columns in New York by riding a horse from Central Park to the supper club El Borracho and then hitching it to a fence before going in.
    She angered environmentalist groups in New York by proposing to subdivide and sell nearly a third of historic Whitney Park to real estate developers (1997).

    Her racehorse, Birdstone, won the Belmont Stakes — denying racehorse Smarty Jones the Triple Crown (2004).
    Birdstone would later sire Mine That Bird, who won the 2009 Kentucky Derby.
    She was an active polo enthusiast who once presented the Whitney Cup to Prince Charles and Geoffrey Kent's Polo Team at Cirincester
