    Born in London, United Kingdom
Portrayed Blanche Hunt on the British soap opera 'Coronation Street' (1974-2009)
Appeared in the mini-series 'The Forsyte Saga' (1967), 'Nicholas Nickleby' (1968), 'Sense and Sensibility' (1971) and 'The Barchester Chronicles' (1982)

Why she might be annoying:

Before being cast as Blanche, she had one episode appearances on 'Coronation Street' as a policewoman (1961) and a shoplifter (1967).
She was initially turned down for the role of Blanche and was cast only when actress Patricia Cutts died after appearing in just two episodes.

Why she might not be annoying:

'Coronation Street' co-star William Roache praised her 'amazing dry wit.'
She won two British Soap Awards for Best Comedy Performance (2005,2008).
She said, 'If I started trying to play the lines for laughs, they wouldn't come out right and the performance would suffer.'
