He was traded to St. Louis, despite the fact he was viewed as being part of the Rangers future early in his career.
He bounced back and forth between the majors and the independent leagues following his stint with the Expos.

He is the son of former minor league player Fernando Aanonio Tatís and the father of baseball star Fernando Tatis, Jr.
He hit two grand slams in one inning (April 23, 1999).
As a result of this feat, he holds the record for most RBI's recorded in a single inning.
He donated a portion of his 2005 MLB salary to help with construction of a church in the Dominican Republic.
He was the last player to wear #17 for the Mets, prior to it being retired in honor of Keith Hernandez.
