The Resume

    (October 20, 1955-October 9, 2016)
    Born in Cincinnati, Ohio
Professional boxer and Light Welterweight champion (1980-85)
Professional record of 39 wins and one loss
Remembered for his wild defense, free fighting style and drug use
Nicknamed 'Hawk,' his fights were referred to as 'Hawk Time'

Why he might be annoying:

He pissed his career and wealth away with his cocaine addiction.
He openly admitted that he didn't think he could beat Sugar Ray Leonard, but still wanted to fight him for the money he could make off the fight.
In his only loss, late in his career, he showed up high for a fight, and when knocked down, counted himself out, pounding on the floor with his boxing glove in rhythm with the referee.
Undefeated as world champion, he didn't lose his title in the ring but rather abandoned it for partying and drugs with his only loss coming during a temporary ill-advised comeback.
During his first fight with Alexis Arguello, his trainer was caught on camera instructing an assistant to give Pryor a bottle that he had 'mixed,' as it is against the rules to give a fighter anything but water, this should have lead to disqualification. But the tape came to light too late after the fight to drug test Pryor. Pryor denied wrong doing, but years late,r it was discovered that his trainer sometimes gave his fighters a mixture of antihistamines and water late in fights to help their endurance.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was one of the most exciting fighters of all time with 35 of his 39 wins (and only loss) coming via knockout.
At five foot six, he had to overcome significant height disadvantages against most of his opponents.
His first fight against Alexis Argeullo was inarguably one of the greatest of all time.
He had to finally retire for good because of eye problems.
He's considered one of the greatest light welterweights of all time.
He had an amateur record of 204 - 16 and beat Tommy Hearns in the 1976 Golden Gloves.
He finally got clean and sober, and is married with four children, became a deacon in his church and an anti-drug speaker.
He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1996.
