Why he might be annoying:

Despite 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' being in force at the time, he was openly gay.
The information he revealed may have compromised battle plans and revealed the names of secret informants against the Taliban, opening the door for their assassination.
His work experience consisted of working at Starbucks and Abercrombie and Fitch, yet, he was given a security clearance to top secret documents.
He considered himself a hacker, although all he did was essentially just copy information readily available to him to CDs.
He suffers from gender confusion and thinks he might want to become a woman.
His AOL screen name was 'bradass87.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He grew up with an alcoholic mom and a father that would beat him with a belt.
He was kept in 23 hour solitary confinement and forced to take anti-depressants.
He is considered a hero to those who want more government transparency.
The public generally supported his release of information.
Some point out the hypocrisy of soldiers who have been accused of torture getting off easy and his release of information carrying a potential life sentence.
He was betrayed by a fellow hacker who turned him in to the police after he confided in him what he was doing.
Some have called for his execution as a traitor.
