    (November 28, 1682-March 21, 1760)
    Born in Salem, Massachusetts
First accuser in the Salem Witch Trials (1692)
She convinced people she was bewitched when she started her bizarre antics.
Her antics included speaking random gibberish, contorting, and crawling under furniture.
She scapegoated her father’s slave Tituba, saying that she had been teaching her and other children methods of fortune telling.
Her cousin Abigail and many other girls also exhibited bizarre behaviors resulting in a panic throughout the village.
She was the reason for the Salem witch trials, which resulted in random accusations and the hangings of 19 innocent people and two dogs.
She was only nine years old at the time, and most likely didn’t know the seriousness of her actions.
It is believed that her convulsions were genuine as a result of easting poisoned rye crop, so it is likely she actually did think she was possessed.
She left Salem early on, and did not participate in the hysteria that followed her accusations.
Her bizarre behavior stopped once she left Salem.
