TV Game Show Contestant

The Resume

    (May 20, 1950- )
    Retired TV weatherman
    Resident of Las Vegas
Contestant on The Price Is Right (September 22, 2008)
Became the first person to correctly bid the exact price for the showcase showdown: $23,743 for a karaoke machine, a pool table, and a camper

Why he might be annoying:

He lost one of Price’s easier games, Switch, guessing that an Apple computer cost more than a pair of exercise bikes. (He later explained, ‘I didn’t see that there were two bikes.’)
Host Drew Carrey was decidedly subdued when he announced that Kniess had gotten the price exactly right.
Carey later said that everyone on the show figured no one could get the exact price without having received inside information. (‘I thought somebody had cheated us, and I thought the whole show was over. I thought they were going to shut us down, and I thought I was going to be out of a job.’)
Suspicions at the time were that a recently fired producer, Roger Dobkowitz, had somehow leaked the showcase price for revenge.
CBS held back the show for months, finally airing it during the December ratings doldrum.
In explaining how he came up with his bid, he said that he added $743 to his initial estimate because it was his PIN number. (Needless to say, he had to change it.)

Why he might not be annoying:

As a weatherman in Atlanta, he won two Southeast Regional Emmys (1993-94).
Before going on ‘The Price Is Right,’ he and wife spent months watching and studying the show and realized that many prizes appeared on show after show.
He got off contetants row with a perfect bid: $1,175 for a Big Green Egg Smoker and Grill (appropriately, the first item that he had recognized as a repeating prize while studying the show).
He recognized all three items in his showcase from previous shows, letting him come up with a ballpark figure of $23,000.
His reason for making his PIN ‘743’: he and his wife were married on July 4 and his wife’s birthday is in March.
He pointed out that if he had gotten inside information, he could have rounded down to $23,700 and still been close enough to win both showcases without anyone getting suspicious.
