She abandoned her second husband, Arthur Chapman, and their four-month-old son to move to London.
She married a third husband without divorcing Chapman; the marriage lasted eight weeks.
She refused to wear an apron, claiming 'Only a slut gets in a mess in the kitchen.'
She insisted Christmas puddings should be prepared a year in advance.
She lost her TV shows after being rude to housewife/cook Gwen Troake with a display of mock retching during the show 'The Big Time.'

Her recipes looked extravagant, but were usually economical, as indicated by her catchphrase, 'This won't stretch your purse.'
