Why Tashkent, Uzbekistan might be annoying:

    It generally does not have a good infrastructure.
    It looks like a typical Soviet city, which stands in stark contrast with its Islamic past.
    The temperature can be extremely hot in July and August.
    Alisher Navoi Opera and Ballet Theater were built with hard labor by Japanese POWs.
    It was destroyed by the Khwarezmids and again by Genghis Khan. (1214 and 1219, respectively)
    Trees in the Amir Timur Square, a popular landmark in the city, were down for no known reason, which enraged environmentalists. (December 2009)

Why Tashkent, Uzbekistan might not be annoying:

    It has Central Asia’s only metro system.
    There are not a lot of potholes in the city center.
    It was located on the famous Silk Road.
    The oldest written Koran is found here since 1924.
    It witnessed massive industrialization during World War II, when the Soviets moved factories from western Russia, which was overrun by the Nazis.
    It was destroyed by an earthquake (April 26, 1966), but was soon rebuilt two years later.
    It was named the cultural capital of the Islamic world. (2007)
