Baseball Player

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He was forced to play outside of his natural shortstop position in his first couple years with the Mariners, due to Alex Rodriguez being on the roster.
He was injury prone during his career.
Some baseball pundits felt this hampered his chances at earning individual accolades.
His defensive prowess waned considerably during his later seasons.
He retired after he was unable to secure a roster spot with the Mariners, in what would have been his second stint with the team.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was one of the players acquired by the Mariners in the trade that sent Randy Johnson to Houston.
He didn’t make a scene when he found out he wasn’t going to be playing shortstop during his first couple seasons with the team.
He was able to play for the Mariners during the 2001 ALCS, despite being diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis a month earlier.
He served as one of the leaders on the Tigers in the years following their infamous 43-119 season.
He is the first player in the modern era of Major League Baseball to gradually increase his batting average for six consecutive seasons.
