Why he might be annoying:

He's a chain-smoker.
Like most NPR commentators, he's been accused of liberal bias in his reporting.
He truly has a face made for radio.

Why he might not be annoying:

He has a resonant, cigarette-deepened voice.
NPR fired him from 'Morning Edition' just before his 25th anniversary.
Despite his popularity, they claimed he was too old to appeal to young listeners.
Many fans circulated 'Save Bob Edwards' petitions to protest his dismissal.
Even though NPR wanted him to stay on as an occasional 'guest host,' he quit and started a new show on an independent radio network.
For more than 20 years, he went to bed at 6 p.m. and got up at 1 a.m. to do his early-morning news show.
