Best known for directing four James Bond films: ‘Goldfinger’ (1964), ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ (1971), ‘Live and Let Die’ (1973) and ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’ (1974)
Also directed ‘The Intruder’ (1953), ‘An Inspector Calls’ (1954), ‘The Colditz Story’ (1955), ‘The Devil’s Disciple’ (1959), ‘The Best of Enemies’ (1962), ‘Funeral in Berlin’ (1966), ‘The Battle of Britain’ (1969), ‘Force 10 from Navarone’ (1978), ‘The Mirror Crack’d’ (1980), ‘Evil Under the Sun’ (1982) and ‘Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins’ (1985)

Why he might be annoying:

He felt the women in Bond films were purely decorative: ‘One of the rules of the Bond pictures is that you’re not allowed to have a leading lady who can act.’
He was originally set to direct ‘Superman’ (1978), but when filming moved from Italy to England he had to be replaced with Richard Donner, because Hamilton could work in Britain for 30 days each year due his ‘tax exile’ status.
His ‘Remo Williams’ film was described by ‘Variety’ as ‘a poor man’s James Bond.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the Royal Navy during World War II, earning the Distinguished Service Cross.
He started as a clapperboard boy and said he ‘discovered how a studio works the hard way.’
He had a reputation for avoiding wasteful spending: ‘If we spend a million dollars, it had better be up there on the screen.’
He said, ‘Nothing ever killed my enthusiasm and my passion. I know that I’ve made some bad pictures, but when I was making a film, I knew I had to do the best I could with the material that I was working with.’
