    Boogie-woogie pianist and singer
    Recorded the singles ‘Down the Road a Piece’ (1947), ‘Chicken Shack Boogie’ (1948), ‘Bewildered’ (1948), ‘Hold Me Baby’ (1949), ‘Roomin’ House Boogie’ (1949), ‘Let’s Make Christmas Merry, Baby’ (1949), ‘Bad, Bad Whiskey’ (1950), ‘Let’s Rock a While’ (1951), ‘Thinkin’ and Drinkin’’ (1952), ‘Trouble in Mind’ (1952), ‘Let Me Go Home, Whiskey’ (1953), ‘One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer’ (1953), ‘Good, Good Whiskey’ (1954) and ‘Vicious, Vicious Vodka’ (1954)
    Inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame (2010)

Why he might be annoying:

    His birth year has also been listed as 1924, 1925 and 1928.
    While performing in clubs, he would often run up a bar tab larger than his performance fee.
    He admitted about his many drinking songs, ‘I practiced what I preached.’
    During his last recording sessions, produced by Johnny Otis, he was in such poor condition that Otis had to play the left-hand piano parts for him (1972).

    He joined the US Navy during World War II, earning thirteen battle stars in the Philippines.
    He was named most popular rhythm and blues artist in a Billboard poll of jukebox operators (1949).
    Critic Nick Tosches called him ‘the first great rock ‘n’ roll piano man.’
    Fats Domino credited him as an influence.
