The Resume

    (September 8, 1915-June 8, 2012)
    Born in Susanville, California
Best known as storekeeper Sam Drucker on the TV series 'Petticoat Junction' and 'Green Acres' (with occasional guest spots on 'The Beverly Hillbillies')
Also portrayed Doc Williams on the TV series 'The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet' (1954-64)
Acted in 'He Walked by Night (1948),' 'D.O.A. (1950),' 'The Asphalt Jungle (1950),' 'Father of the Bride (1950),' 'Ace in the Hole (1951),' 'When World's Collide (1951),' The Atomic City (1952),' 'Half a Hero (1953),' 'The Indian Fighter (1955),' 'The Bad Seed (1956),' 'The Missouri Traveler (1958),' 'The Man Who Understood Women (1959),' 'The Gnome-Mobile (1967)' and 'The Million Dollar Duck (1971)'

Why he might be annoying:

He went uncredited in all but a handful of movies he was in between 1947-50.
Though he was in Hitchcock's 1954 thriller 'Rear Window' he had no dialogue and played 'Husband living above Thorwalds.'
His nerdy appearance had him typecast in movies as working stiffs and henpecked husbands.
In the 1960s he did TV commercials for Ivory Soap and Shasta Grape Soda.
Typecasted as Sam Drucker, he was the first to portray the same character in three different TV series (followed later by George 'Goober' Lindsey).
His last role before retirement found him as (you guessed it) Sam Drucker in the 1990 TV movie 'Return to Green Acres.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He graduated from Stanford University and contributed to the campus humor magazine the Stanford Chaparral.
He's been married to the same woman since 1940.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
He was one of only three co-stars who remained throughout the seven year run of 'Petticoat Junction.'
Though nearly 90-years-old at the time, he traveled from his Portland retirement home to L.A. to attend his 'Green Acres' co-star Eddie Albert's funeral.
