Why he might be annoying:

A difficult hairpin turn is named after him at Imola in San Marino.
During a race, one of his rear tires blew off, and instead of slowing down he kept his speed only to come back at the pits with a completely destroyed rear.
In Japan, he was involved in a dreadful accident when his car took off and crashed into the crowd. Two were killed and 25 injured, but he escaped unharmed.
His aggressive driving style took his life after a freak accident in Belgium.
The Montreal racing circuit was named in his honor.

Why he might not be annoying:

In 1979, he could've easily won the championship by overtaking his teammate and ignoring team instructions, but he was loyal and stayed in 2nd place (he remained 20 inches behind).
He once said: 'Me, stop? Certainly not! I was first and wanted to stay there... I'd rather aim for an uncertain victory than a certain 6th place.'
He scored his first F1 victory in his home country in front of his wildly ecstatic fans.
He was friendly, loyal and unpretentious.
Most Tifosis agrees that Gilles is the greatest pilots that ever worked for Ferrari.
