    (June 19, 1623-August 19, 1662)
Developed Pascal's law '...changes in pressure at any point in an enclosed fluid at rest are transmitted undiminished to all points in the fluid and act in all directions'
Invented the digital calculator, hydraulic pump and the syringe
    Published 'Pensées'
His father did not wish him to learn anything unless he was able to master it.
He was in constant pain from migraine headaches that made him very irritable.
He was stubborn and a perfectionist.
Some of his colleagues described him as a meek slender man who was a ruthless bully.
He died at thirty-nine from cancer.
His mother died when he was just a few years old, so he was raised entirely by his father.
He said: 'The chief malady of man is restless curiosity about things which he cannot understand; and it is not so bad for him to be in error as to be curious to no purpose.'
He stated: 'Nothing is so insufferable to man as to be completely at rest, without passions, without business, without diversion, without study.'
The computer language, Pascal, was named in his honor.
He said: 'Man is obviously made to think. It is his whole dignity and his whole merit.'
He thought up the idea of the 'Vacuum.'
As a youngster, he sent some of his ideas to philosopher Rene Descartes, who thought his ideas could not possibly come from a youth.
Descartes felt his theories on the vacuum were absurd (Descartes was wrong).
Towards the end of his life he became deeply religious.
He attended many church services and helped the poor.
