Why he might be annoying
During a coffee break in 1954, an A&R agent reluctantly allowed him and his musical partner into his recording studio.
He unwittingly launched a craze that inspired more than 50,000 skiffle bands just in the United Kingdom.
He claims to inspire 'white rock and roll.'
Though he had yet to pick up a banjo, he managed to bluff his way through an early audition.
Ironically, he died shortly before he was to perform at a tribute to George Harrison!
Why he might not be annoying
Many acts of the British invasion of the 1960's regard him as an inspiration.
He had the first British debut single that went gold (400,000 copies, for 'Rock Island Line' in 1956).
During intermissions, he used a washboard, washtub bass, and cheap guitar to entertain crowds.
He was awarded an Order of the British Empire (November 2000).
He survived several heart attacks.
After his death, his sons starred in a musical tribute to him ('Lonnie D - the Musical').
