U.S. Senator

The Resume

    (August 30, 1960- )
    Born in Jacksonville, Florida
    Middle name is Roland
    Former IBM executive
US Senator from North Carolina (assumed office January 3, 2015)
Represented the 98th district in the North Carolina House of Representatives (January 24, 2007 – January 3, 2015)
Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives (2011 - 15)
    Republican

Why he might be annoying:

He twice married and twice divorced his high school sweetheart.
He didn't reside in the state of North Carolina until 1998, and then started running for political office four years later.
He maintained a militant stance against LGBT rights and gay marriage, even after it became the law of the land.
He was vocally critical of candidate Donald Trump - until he got elected President (can you say peer pressure?)
He opposed filling a Supreme Court vacancy during an election year when it was Merrick Garland, but then supported virtually the same thing when it came to Amy Coney Barrett.
He was criticized for attributing the high rate of COVID cases in the Hispanic community to their being 'less likely' to wear masks and practice social distancing.
He was caught not wearing a face mask in a crowd during Trump's acceptance speech at the 2020 Republican National Convention (tested positive for COVID-19 a month later).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the eldest of five siblings.
As a kid, his family moved 20 times.
He was unable to afford college after graduating high school, so he took a job as a warehouse records clerk earning minimum wage.
He named his three dogs named Reagan, Abe and Ike.
He defeated incumbent Senator Kay Hagen in a surprise upset win.
He has proposed laws that would make it easier for immigrant youths to attain a pathway to citizenship.
He apologized after the mask incident, admitting 'I fell short of my own standard.'
He condemned Donald Trump after the release of the Access Hollywood tape, calling his comments 'indefensible.'
