    Producer Sam Goldwyn dropped her in favor of Virginia Mayo (1945).
    She had a long-term affair with married director Elia Kazan.
    Italian poet Cesare Pavese committed suicide after she ended their affair; she reportedly commented, 'I did not know he was such a famous writer.'

Why she might not be annoying:

    While attending the New Theater School, she and Shelley Winters became good friends; while looking for their break, they worked together as ushers and cocktail waitresses.
    During World War II, she entertained at the Hollywood Canteen and in USO shows at hospitals.
    After leaving films, she worked as a guide at the Dolphin Laboratory on St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.
    She and her husband raised a foster child from Kenya.
