Because of her lesbianism and hard hitting tennis, she is accused of being too masculine.
She has a tattoo on her upper left arm of an angel with an olive branch.
After sixteen straight WTA match victories, she disappointed her home town fans when she lost in the opening round of the French Open (2001).).
She became the first woman to lose a US Open semi finals with two shut out sets, losing to Maria Sharapova 6-0, 4-6, 6-0 (September 8, 2006).

She is proud of, and has not hidden the fact she is a lesbian.
She is left handed but plays tennis right handed.
She is the first French woman ranked #1 in tennis (September 2004).
She did not get to enjoy her grand slam victory as Justine Henin-Hardenne walk off and retired complaining of an upset stomach although she was trouncing Justine 6-1, 2-0.
