Why he might be annoying
While working at a pharmacy, he sampled small doses of medication to study their physiological effects.
He stopped sampling medication after taking a powerful laxative.
He supported Eugenics, the notion of selective breeding to create a biologically superior race.
He suggested intelligence testing as a requirement for parents to have children.
He enjoyed quantifying information so much that he would count the yawns and coughs of his lecture audience
He studied arithmetic by smell, assigning numerical values to random odors.
He often suffered mental breakdowns.
Why he might not be annoying
He was one of the first scientists to use questionnaires in gathering information about human subjects.
He is credited with developing the first weather map, which was based on charting air pressure data.
He pioneered the study of human fingerprinting, now used for identification and crime scene investigation.
He developed the statistical concept of correlation.
He was a first cousin of Charles Darwin.
He was awarded a medal by the Royal Geographic Society for his detailed accounts of African safaris.
He was knighted (1909).
