The Resume

    (1964- )
Formed at San Quentin State Prison in California
Estimated 300 full time members and 15,000-20,000 ‘associates’
    Headed by a three-man commission
Activities include drug trafficking, human trafficking, extortion, prostitution, counterfeiting, identity theft, and murder for hire
Symbols include shamrocks, swastikas, the letters AB, and the number 666

Why they might be annoying:

    Membership is for whites only.
They make up 0.1% of the prison population but are responsible for about a fifth of murders behind bars.
They try to make their killings as bloody and public as possible, such as stabbing a target multiple times while the target is under guard.
They have a policy of killing any inmate who disrespects a member, even if the slight is minor or unintentional.
Their motto is ‘Blood in, blood out’: Prospective members must perform a violent act, such as killing another inmate or assaulting a guard, to join, and the only way of leaving the Brotherhood is death.
Its leaders have been able to deliver orders to subordinates despite being in solitary confinement in the Florence, Colorado, Supermax prison.
When members go on trial, they subpoena other members as witnesses so they can meet and exchange information.
An attempted ‘decapitation strike’ that arrested 29 high-ranking members on federal racketeering charges (2002) ended with a lot of additional convictions but none of the death sentences prosecutors were hoping for.
They formed an alliance with the Gambino crime family while John Gotti was in prison.

Why they might not be annoying:

They originally formed for protection from other prison gangs that had formed along racial lines.
They considered allying with the Manson Family, but decided that the murders of Sharon Tate and her houseguests were too creepy for their tastes (and that Manson himself was too far to the left).
They are willing to put aside their white supremacist ideology to make a buck, such as allying with Mexican cartels in drug trafficking.
