Why he might be annoying:

    He was a Republican until switching affiliations over the Vietnam War.
    He was considered to be the most liberal member of the House of Representatives.
    He joined John Conyers in filing a lawsuit against George W. Bush.
    He was one of two Representatives to support re-establishing the military draft during the Iraq War.
    His local newspaper said he lacked class and dignity as a Representative.

Why he might not be annoying:

    As of 2008, he was the only openly nontheistic (non-religious) member of Congress.
    He earned an MBA from UC-Berkeley.
    He served in the United States Air Force.
    He consistently had a perfect pro-choice voting record and earned high marks from the NAACP.
    He wanted to 'stop the promotion of narrow religious beliefs in science, marriage contracts, military and social service.'
