Baseball Player
    (January 4, 1944- )
    Born in Northfork, West Virginia
Outfielder for the Minnesota Twins (1969-1972) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (1974-75)
Manager for the Cleveland Indians (2000-02) and the Philadelphia Phillies (2006- )
He speaks with a real southern drawl.
His surname could be misleading as it common among people of Hispanic descent.
He was relegated to bench duty during his playing career in the Majors.
His teams frequently underachieved during his tenure in Cleveland.
Many Philadelphia area sportscasters questioned his appointment as Phillies manager citing he is too soft of a leader.
While playing in Japan, he took a fastball to the jaw which shattered the bones in his face.
He overcame the injury by returning to active play in 14 games.
He overcame a quadruple bypass, a heart attack and colon cancer.
While seeking treatment for colon cancer, he went against doctor's orders and managed games with a colostomy bag in hand.
His tenure as Phillies manager has been viewed as being widely successful.
He guided to the team to its first division title in 14 years (2007) and first World Series championship in 28 years (2008).
