Why they might be annoying:

Eric Clapton penned 'Layla' as a love song to Pattie Boyd, whom he was having an affair with while she was married to his pal George Harrison.
Band members recorded most of the album 'Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs' high on heroin and other assorted pharmaceuticals.
When the album was met with lukewarm critical response, Clapton took it personally, becoming ill-tempered and moody.
The band imploded before they completed their second album and dissolved after just two years together.
Gordon, an undiagnosed schizophrenic, murdered his mother with a hammer in 1983 and was sentenced to confinement in a mental hospital.

Why they might not be annoying:

Rock critics agree that Clapton performed some of his strongest guitar work with the band.
'Layla,' an FM radio staple, was a Top 10 smash in both the U.S. and U.K. in 1972, and reemerged in the U.K. as a Top 10 in 1982.
'Layla' was named by Rolling Stone Magazine 27th Greatest Songs of All Time and 16th Greatest Songs of Rock and Roll by VH-1.
Andy Summers, guitarist for The Police, named his daughter Layla after the song.
