Why he might be annoying:

He had a pointy goatee.
He is often confused with General Winfield Scott, the man he was named after.
His army suffered terrible losses at the Battle of Cold Harbor (June 3, 1864).
After the Civil War, he supported appeasing the defeated Confederates.
He ran for the U.S. presidency against James Garfield, and lost (1880).
During his presidential run, he was humiliated when it was discovered he didn't know what a tariff was.
He was the sixth president of the National Rifle Association.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was seriously wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg (1863).
Although he would recover from the wound, it would cause him pain for the rest of his life.
He was strongly opposed to slavery, believing that all men were born 'equal and free.'
He often inspired high morale among his troops.
During his run for the presidency, he refused to accept campaign contributions.
He once said, 'Nothing can intimidate me from doing what I believe to be honest and right.'
