Why he might be annoying:

    He was married three times, divorced twice.
    On 'Around the World in 80 Days,' he was overshadowed by producer Michael Todd, which probably contributed to his failing to win the Oscar for Best Director when 'Around the World...' won Best Picture.
    He helmed the campy 'Jaws' ripoff 'Orca.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He served in the Signal Corps during World War II.
    He was fluent in French, Italian and German in addition to his native English.
    George Lucas designed the attack on the Death Star in 'Star Wars' as an homage to the climactic attack in 'The Dam Busters.'
