    She became so estranged from her daughter Jane that when an author of 'where are they now' books contacted Jane to ask about Ann's whereabouts, the response was 'If you couldn't find her, what makes you think I can?'
    When she announced her decision to become an actress, her father, a career military man, banned her from the house and declared she was on 'the inevitable road to hell.'
    She was nominated for an Oscar as Best Actress for her performance in 'Holiday.'
    She has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for her work in movies and television.
    She survived her sailboat capsizing in shark-infested waters off Cuba.
    Myrna Loy called her 'a wonderful actress, completely without star temperament.'
