    Published in ‘The New Yorker,’ ‘Harper’s,’ ‘The Saturday Evening Post,’ ‘Life’ and ‘Vogue’

    He was a failed salesman.
    He didn’t believe in himself.
    He had big teeth.

    Many of his epigrams are still famous today (example: ‘Candy is dandy/But liquor is quicker’).
    He lambasted stupidity, intolerance and greed in his poems.
    His work often mocks the idea of poetry itself.
    He was good to his wife and daughters.
    He inspired Dr. Seuss to write nonsense books for children.
