Born in Dawson, New Mexico
Co-founder with Cesar Chavez of the United Farm Workers (UFW)

Why she might be annoying:

She was so mouthy as a child, her grandfather nicknamed her 'seven tongues.'
She divorced twice.
She had 11 children.
She was arrested over 20 times for non-violent civil disobedience.

Why she might not be annoying:

She stood up for women's rights and supported laws protecting migrant workers from handling fruits and vegetables riddled with deadly pesticides.
Her activism was overshadowed by that of Cesar Chavez (sexism?).
In 1988, she was beaten severely by policeman at a peaceful protest rally against George H.W. Bush, causing several broken ribs and the removal of her spleen.
She's a revered figure in the Chicano Civil Rights Movement.
